Marie M. (DeWyze) DeBaets

Marie M. DeBaets, 96, of Notre Dame, IN (formerly of South Bend, IN) passed away at 7:47 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Dujarie House, Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN.

She was born on July 19, 1921 to the late Gentiel and Erma (Monserez) DeWyze in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident.  Along with her parents; she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Neeb in 1967; a sister, Marjorie Kuboske; and her son-in-law, John Getz.

Marie graduated in 1937 from Washington High School.

She worked at her parents Grocery Store, which was called DeWyze Grocery until it closed.  She then worked at Woolworth’s, Robertson’s, Shopper’s Fair, and South Bend Hardware.

On November 20, 1941, as Marie M. DeWyze, she married Henry A. DeBaets in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in South Bend, IN.  Henry passed away on April 9, 2005.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Cindy Getz of Littleton, CO; three grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Neeb of London, England; Kelly (Matt) Kuchar of Albuquerque, NM; Courtney (Mike) Ranson of Denver, CO; eight great grandchildren, Patrick Neeb, Caroline Neeb, Jenna Kuchar, Abby Kuchar, Claudia Kuchar, McKenna Ranson, Kennedy Ranson, Callaghan Ranson; and one sister, Doris Hinders of Kettering, OH.  Marie is also survived by a caring family of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and two great-great-great nieces, all of whom were very special to her.

Marie was a member of St. Joseph Medical Auxiliary, where she had volunteered at least 10,500 hours.  She was also a member of Corpus Christi Parish, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Golden Cluster at St. Hedwig Parish.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m.

Friends and family may also visit from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. Joseph Chapel at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 in St. Joseph Chapel at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN, with Rev. Kenneth Grabner, C.S.C. officiating. Private burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
