Lorraine M. Maxwell, 86, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at 8:44 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017.  She spent her final two weeks at her daughter and son-in-law’s home, surrounded by her entire family and quality visits from friends. Lorraine was born November 1, 1930, in Michigan City, IN, to Earl W. and Irene V. (Dembinski) Powley.  On June 30, 1951, she married James W. Maxwell, who preceded her in death on July 25, 2000.  Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Jeffrey) Korros and her son, Brian J. (Gabriela) Maxwell, both living in South Bend. She has four grandchildren: Matthew D. Korros of Seattle, Stefanie L. (Korros) (Isaac) Wagner of Greenwood, IN, and Isabela E. Maxwell and Thomas J. Maxwell, both of South Bend.

Lorraine was a woman of style, grace, and a warm, giving heart! She worked as a model of designer clothing in the 1940’s. As a working mother, she was employed at B.L Seib Insurance (Michigan City), Life Realty (South Bend), Dr. Jack Wright (Receptionist) and Dr. Bodnar and Associates (Office Manager). Outside activities and volunteering include: YMCA (Michigan City), Choir Member/Cantor (Corpus Christi Parish) and a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she also was a choir member until 2015. Lorraine was President of Delta Theta Tau Philanthropic Sorority, a Camp Fire Leader and South Bend Welcome Wagon Coordinator and Officer in the 1960's. She loved to sing and dance. She and her husband belonged to many local dancing groups (“Merry Timers” and “StarLighters”), hosting many parties for those groups. In addition to generously volunteering her time and talents for others, she most enjoyed bringing family and friends together with “fancy parties” and cooking tasty dishes & desserts.

Visitation will take place at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., where a rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery.
