Lois departed this world surrounded by loved ones on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Darden Home LLC at the Shellbark Residence in South Bend, IN.

She was born Lois Ann Kuboske on August 7, 1936 to Paul and Marjorie (DeWyze) Kuboske in South Bend, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Carol Myers and brothers-in-law, John Haluda, William Leyes, Robert Leyes and James Leyes.

Lois was a 1953 graduate of the Saint Joseph Academy in South Bend, IN. She worked at Gilberts Clothing Store as Mr. Gilbert’s secretary. That is where she met and later married Joseph C. Leyes on May 30, 1956 in South Bend, IN. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2000. She then married Robert J. Sikorski on November 14, 2003 in South Bend, IN.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bob Sikorski of South Bend, IN; her daughters, Anne Holm (Jay) of Granger, IN, Leslie Abbott (James) of Elkhart, IN, Jill Schlarb (Clint) of South Bend, IN, Mary Haag (Tim) of South Bend, IN; her step daughters, Roberta (Ron) Szumski of Avon, IN, Robyn (Keith) Futa of Mishawaka, IN, Anne (Jeff) Billings of Mishawaka, IN; her sons, Paul (Nancy) Leyes of South Bend, IN, Matthew (Jennifer) Leyes of South Bend, IN; her step sons, Mark Sikorski of New Carlisle, IN, Bruce (Mary Grace) Sikorski of South Bend, IN; her grandchildren, Randy (Sally) Leyes, Tim (Monica) Leyes, Dan (Emily) Leyes, Zachary Haag, Matthew (Kristin) Haag, Joshua Haag, Lucas Schlarb, Joseph Leyes; her step grandchildren, Karianne (Josh) Scott, Katy Sikorski, Johnny Szumski, Joey Szumski, Justin Szumski, Jacob Szumski, Kaitlyn Futa, Emily Futa, Kaley Sikorski, Robert J Sikorski II, Carson Billings, Chloe Billings; her great grandchildren, Chloe Leyes and Maya Leyes; her step great grandchild, Ellie Harper Scott; her sister Jean Haluda of South Bend IN; her sister-in-law Lois A. Leyes of South Bend, IN; her brother-in-law, Russell Myers of Mesa, AZ; her aunts, Marie DeBaets of Notre Dame, IN and Doris Hinders of Kettering, OH.

Lois had a genuine love and affection for her family, friends, and others blessed to have met and known her. She was an extremely selfless, kind, and generous person. She loved having a big family and spending as much time together as possible. Cooking and entertaining were her forte’ and everyone knew where to be on Sundays, holidays, and special events. Lois had a very strong Catholic faith and a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother which was a true comfort for her in both good and bad times.

Lois worked for years as a receptionist for Robert Allen DDS of South Bend, IN and Ronald Miller DDS of Mishawaka, IN. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister. She also administered communion to many at Memorial Hospital. She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 10 years which she enjoyed immensely.

Our deepest gratitude to the Shellbark Avenue house of Darden Home LLC for the outstanding loving care that she received.  We would like to personally thank Paul, Jennifer, Ingrid, Mashell, Margaret, Shareen, Tapiwa, Anna, Shirley and Pam for their tender loving care and making Lois feel at home and part of a family. Their devotion to her care and wellbeing gave her family such peace of mind.

​Visitation will be from 2pm to 8pm Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at Holy Cross Church, 1050 Wilber St., South Bend, IN.  Cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Lois may be made to Holy Cross Church, 920 Wilber St., South Bend, IN 46628 or Hospice Foundation, Supporting Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545-5234.
