John R. Mitchell

John R. Mitchell, 89, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 in his home. He was born on February 20, 1928 in New Carlisle, Indiana, to the late Roy and Hazel (Penwell) Mitchell. On November 6, 1949, he married Patricia A. Spitler, who preceded him in death on March 2, 2014.  He was also preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. John is survived by three sons, Michael J. (Darlene) Mitchell of New Carlisle, Indiana, Dan A. (Kathy) Mitchell of New Carlisle, Indiana and Jeffrey M. Mitchell of Portland, Oregon; seven grandchildren, Tim Mitchell, Joe (Carin) Mitchell, John (Amanda) Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Nathaniel Mitchell, George Mitchell, and Madeline Mitchell; two step-grandchildren, Corinne (Jason) Odle and John Longmore, Jr.; eleven great-grandchildren, Aviana, Briella, Wyatt, and West Mitchell, Ashley Borkholder, Madison, Tyler and Brooklyn Mitchell, Darrell, Gavin and Ethan Odle; and one sister-in-law, Carrie Mitchell of New Carlisle, Indiana.  He was a 1946 graduate of New Carlisle High School, and a lifelong dairy farmer. John was a very hard working man and loved his family deeply. He enjoyed being a grandfather and a great-grandfather. John served as a Hudson Township Trustee, and was a lifetime member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 until 12:00 Noon E.S.T. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 in Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 6655 E. 1000 N., New Carlisle, Indiana. A Funeral Service will take place at 12:00 Noon, E.S.T. in the church. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.  The family wishes to thank his caregiver, Lorilie Holmes.
