Geraldine M. “Gerri” Slater, 85, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 in Hospice House.  Geraldine was born on April 25, 1931, in South Bend, Indiana to John F. and Harriet (Wcisel) Przygoda, and was a lifelong resident.  She retired in January 1993 from RACO, where she was employed in the Purchasing Department for 27 years.  On June 12, 1993 she married William “Bill” Slater, who survives.  Geraldine is also survived by her daughter, Elaine (Terry) McConnell of Las Vegas, Nevada; her son, Robert (Renee) Kosanovich of South Bend, Indiana;  her step-daughter, Peggy (Terry) Quimby of South Bend, Indiana; two step-sons, Allen (Kathy) Slater of Missouri City, Texas and Keith (Wendy) Slater of Roseville, California; two grandchildren, Joshua (Deanna) Kosanovich and Benjamin Kosanovich; seven step-grandchildren, Jason (Kristyn) Quimby, Chad Quimby, Alecia (Jason) Smith, Mark Slater, Joel (Monica) Fletcher, Matthew Fletcher, and Joshua (Melissa) Fletcher; eight step great-grandchildren, Christian Hawkins, Audrey Quimby, Caroline Smith; Brody, Andrew, Anna, Ava and Aiden Fletcher; her sister Caroline (Dan) Blocker of Kingsport, Tennessee; her sister-in-law Lynn Przygoda of South Bend, Indiana; and her former husband, John Kosanovich.  Geraldine was preceded in death by her son, David Kosanovich on April 1, 2013; and her brother, Eugene Przygoda.  A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.  Geraldine was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School.  She attended Ivy Tech where she took courses in Purchasing.  She enjoyed flowers and gardening.  She loved to have fun and entertain her friends and family at her home, especially at holidays and special occasions.  She was a warm and loving wife and mother who was a caregiver for her son David most of his life.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hospice Foundation (foundationforhospice.org).
