Doris Marguerite Truyaert, 81, of New Carlisle, passed away peacefully in her home on her birthday and anniversary, November 12, 2017, surrounded and loved by her family. She was born on November 12, 1936, in Granger, IN, to the late Edwin Sr. and Alice M. (Hamilton) Corpe. On November 12, 1955, as Doris M. Corpe, she married Ivan R. Truyaert, who preceded her in death on January 15, 2005. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin Jr. and Richard Corpe and a sister Wanda Miller. Doris is survived by her two sons, Ivan Jr. (Michele) Truyaert and Jim (Michelle) Truyaert, both of New Carlisle; her five daughters, Gayle (Mike) Saberniak of Chalmers, IN, Diane (Bill) Molnar of Buchanan, MI, Susan (Bill) Gamble of New Carlisle, Peggy (Mike) Bellar of Howard, KS, and Janell (Rich) Bickel of Bremen, IN; 21 grandchildren, Sandy (Bryan) Chan, Claire (Mike) Grzenia, Will Molnar, Josh (Kelsey) Gamble, Tim (Laura) Gamble, Caitlin (Matt) Bell, Laura (Cody) Koeppen, Mary (Jake) Ward, Ben (fiance’ Sara) Bellar, Luke Bellar, Sarah Bellar, Ethan Bellar, Rachel Bellar, Evan Truyaert, Emma Truyaert, Jimmy Truyaert, Anna Truyaert, Kaley (Mitch) Alber, Sam (fiance’ Sarah) Bickel, Emily and Caroline Bickel; 11 great-grandchildren, Marley, Tyler, Heidi, Abby, Josie, Leah, Zoey, Colby, Mitchell, Adara, and Elise Marguerite; three sisters, Gloria (Bus Kelver) Haeck of Osceola, IN, Marilyn Wallace of Walkerton, IN, and Carol (Chuck) Whitten of Lafayette, IN; and her brother Larry (Shirley) Corpe of Buchanan, MI. Doris was a lifelong farmer. She was a parishioner at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church and a member of the Alter and Rosary Society. Grandma Doris was as strong as she was sweet and loving, and her smile was ever present. She was still farming up until her diagnosis, still cooking and baking copious amounts of food for the many family and friends that walked through her door. You could count on her to check and feed the animals, move trucks, and even wrote her own cookbook this past spring. She would occasionally claim to not have talents like her sisters with art and sewing, and deny her kids received their talents from her, but her talent was probably just herself. She loved each of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, family, neighbors, and friends with such a fierce warmth. She was always so filled with joy and pride and was amazed that she and Grandpa Ivan had such a wonderful family. And she always counted herself lucky for this. Visitation will be from 2pm to 8pm Thursday November 16, 2017 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 2:30pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Friday November 17, 2017 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Terre Coupee, with burial to follow at the New Carlisle Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice Care, American Cancer Society, or Habitat for Humanity. To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.
