Dorene Dwyer Hammes

Dorene Dwyer Hammes passed away on April 1, 2018 in Holy Cross Village.

Mrs. Hammes was born in Joliet, Illinois on July 17, 1931.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Dwyer and Anna Wesoloski Dwyer.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Hammes; twin sister, Dorthy LaMontagne; daughters, Gerayln Hammes and Susan Hammes, and sons, John (Lynley) and Jeffery (Lisa) Hammes; five grandchildren, Connor (Celeste) Kruggel, Cole Kruggel, Courtney Kruggel, Claire and Anna Hammes.

Mrs. Hammes was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who loved fulfilling the needs of others.  Dorene enjoyed her home with Jerry in Holland, Michigan.

I think if it were possible to dust the world for fingerprints today, we would find the fingerprints of Dorene in thousands of places; in schools, hospitals, churches, neighborhoods, and particularly in the lives of thousands of young people, many of whom never ever got to meet her, but she has left an imprint there.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 1:30 until 3:15 pm in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at The University of Notre Dame. The mass will begin at 3:30 pm. A private family interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, Indiana.  Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the funeral service at McKenna Hall across from the Morris Inn until 7:00 pm. Kaniewski Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hammes’ honor to a charity of the donor’s choice. Special Note: The Baseball Parking Lot off of Angela Blvd. and Leahy Dr. will be reserved for parking for the funeral of Dorene Dwyer Hammes. There will be transportation busses to shuttle visitors from the parking lot to the Basilica, McKenna Hall, and back to the parking lot.
